10-year-old Crowne Plaza transformed into one of London’s hippest hotels

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Hip US hotel group Ace hotels, a chain co-founded by Alex Calderwood and which began in Seattle, expanded to Portland, then opened in Palm Springs, and Manhattan, New York, comes to Shoreditch in September 2013, expanding from their US sites to add their first London outpost.

When it opens in September 2013, the 265-bedroom Ace Hotel London Shoreditch will become one of the hippest hotels in London joining a list which already includes stylish neighbouring London hotels such as Shoreditch House, Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green, and The Boundary, Sir Terence Conran's stunning hotel which devotes each room to a different designer.

The mission of the Ace hotels group is to bring a locally-inspired approach to design and development, giving new life to challenged properties in emerging locations.

In London that means 100 Shoreditch High Street , formerly a 10-year-old Crowne Plaza , will become a trendy hotel with facade and interiors updated by Universal Design Studio, the architecture and interior design practice founded Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, designers of the Olympic torch.

The street level public spaces will entice passers-by in with a 150-seat restaurant managed by Pablo Flack and David Waddington of Bistrotheque and Shrimpy's, a café serving Square Mile coffee, a gallery space, a juice bar, and a flower shop run by local florist Hattie Fox.

The September 2013 opening of Ace Hotel in Shoreditch is an exciting prospect for travellers who appreciate art, design and style. The people who throng the Ace are fashionable, but not overly so; no one appears eager to turn heads with a striking outfit or outrageous hairstyle, says The New York Times of the Ace Hotel New York which is located in an overlooked neighbourhood of Manhattan .

The Ace Hotel London Shoreditch is the first in a series of six boutique hotels opening in Shoreditch in the next two years adding approximately one thousand rooms to the area's hotel supply. Other high profile openings include the first European Nobu hotel, a second London outpost for Dutch boutique chain CitizenM, a 185-bed hotel within the Shoreditch Village scheme designed by EllisMiller Architects which could be completed by mid-2015, and a new property by local group Montcalm.

The Montcalm Signature Tower London City will be one of two new Montcalm Luxury Hotels to open this year. The new build 200-room hotel just off silicon roundabout will include a roof top bar overlooking London and is joined by The Montcalm Business District London City which also opens in late 2013.
