Epic new David Eldridge play chronicles the fight for Jerusalem over two millennia

LONDON, July 08, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- This summer at Shakespeare's Globe looks set to be an exciting time for theatre lovers with four new plays debuting at the Bankside theatre. Alongside new works by esteemed playwrights Richard Bean, Howard Brenton and Simon Armitage, Holy Warriors is the latest offering from the writer of In Basildon, David Eldridge.

Premiering on July 19th at Shakespeare's Globe, Holy Warriors promises a truly epic, millennia-spanning tale of the fight for Jerusalem, taking in a vast swathe of the historical tumult that has surrounded the Holy City. The story encompasses the Romans capturing of the city, the crusades conflict between Christian forces led by King Richard The Lionheart and Saladin, leader of the Muslims, right up to the Hamas suicide bombings of recent history.

Holy Warriors is the latest, highly anticipated play from David Eldridge, writer of the much-praised stage adaptation of Festen and In Basildon which ran at the Royal Court two years ago and was voted the number one theatre pick of 2012 by the Guardian's writers and critics.

Tickets for Holy Warriors are available via the Shakespeare's Globe website and cost £5 (standing) and between £15 and £42 for seats.
