Saatchi Gallery turns to theatre for the first time in its history

LONDON, September 10, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- A new and innovative production of Julius Caesar is being staged in London later this year with one performance being held at the Saatchi Gallery on the Kings Road before it transfers to the nearby Chelsea Theatre. The Saatchi Gallery which contains the remarkable collection of contemporary art put together by Charles Saatchi featuring Young British Artists such as Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst will be hosting the opening performance on 2nd November, and this will be the first time the venue has ever held a dramatic production. The play will then transfer to the Chelsea Theatre from 3rd November to 15th November. One of Shakespeare's finest history plays, Julius Caesar follows the tale of a group of conspirators who devise a plan to remove the Caesar from power. This exciting new interpretation will retain the original text but place the story against a backdrop of modern day politics. It will demonstrate how Shakespeare's themes of spin, betrayal, backstabbing and power ensure that this 16th-century plays remains remarkably relevant to modern society.

The production will be directed by Jimmy Walters, a young actor turned director, and produced by Fergal Philips. The pair have drawn their inspiration for the play's staging from popular television shows such as House of Cards, Homeland and The Thick of It. The work will allow the audience to witness behind-the-scenes politics while drawing strong parallels between today's political situation and the story of Julius Caesar.
