Representatives from Intus Windows, a leading manufacturer of energy efficient windows, say that they are excited to be part of the growing “passive house” movement in the United States.

New York, NY, October 14, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- According to Aurimas Sabulis, managing director of Intus Windows (http://intuswindows.com/), a worldwide leader in the manufacture of energy efficient window products, his company recently attended the 9th Annual North American Passive House Conference, in the San Francisco Bay Area, presented by Passive House Institute U.S. (PHIUS), a non-profit agency committed to making high-performance passive building principles the mainstream best building practice, and the mainstream market energy performance standard.

“We at Intus Windows are excited to be part of the growing passive house movement her in North America,” says Sabulis. “The main topic of discussion at this year’s conference was the Passive House Institute’s implementation of new climate-specific standards.”

According to Sabulis, the new standards were developed by the PHIUS Technical Committee, a volunteer body based on modified consensus and comprised of international building science experts and North American passive house practitioners. Their mission, he says, was to generate new passive standards for all climate zones.

“Previously this was a one size fits all standard,” Sabulis said. “The newly adapted standard takes into account widely varying humidity, heating, and cooling demands seen across the varying climate zones of North America.”

This approach, he says, promises to establish a global blueprint for efficiency in building, with cost-effectiveness and building science as guiding principles. Sabulis notes that the certification remains a pass/fail standard and focuses on three main areas for PH Certification, including airtightness, source energy, and space conditioning.

According to Sabulis, Intus Windows manufactures Passive House Certified and Passive House suitable windows, doors, and curtain walls. Intus uPVC triple pane windows are suitable for the new Passive House standards that are being developed by the PHIUS. With Air Infiltration (AI) ratings of < 0.03 cfm/ft2, glazing U-Values of 0.088 (Btu/hr/ft2F) and SHGC ranging from 0.252 – 0.620, Intus Windows will continue to produce high performing energy efficient windows that can be used in both homes and commercial buildings.

“Intus Windows have been used in numerous Passive House projects throughout the United States, from Maine to California,” says Sabulis. “In the last 19 years more than 650,000 Intus windows and doors have been manufactured and installed all over the world, from Sweden to Saudi Arabia. Intus is excited about the future of the PHIUS and we are already looking forward to the 2015 conference in Chicago.”
