Burbank, CA, November 17, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- In celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday, The MuttShack Animal Rescue will be giving thanks to all the dog adoption families who adopted a rescued dog from MuttShack. To thank their rescue families, MuttShack will be doing portrait photographs of families with their adopted dogs at Petco in Burbank.

The MuttShack's weekly dog adoption events at Petco in Burbank are cage-free, with open cribs that invite visitors to touch, pet and interact with the dogs. Adult and youth volunteers are there to pitch in and walk the dogs, talk to potential adopters and generally help out in any way they can.

“It's that time of year to give thanks and we wanted to do this by acknowledging people who adopted dogs from us,” says MuttShack founder Amanda St John. “And, with over 1200 dogs adopted in the past few years, if even a small percentage of those showed up it could be overwhelming but we'll be ready,” she says.

Since MuttShack is volunteer-driven, it relies heavily on its volunteers to spread the word about the dogs coming up for adoption, to line up volunteers for each adoption event, and to foster and care for the dogs between adoption events.

According to St John, she also has a special surprise in store for the MuttShack volunteers. “I don't want to give the surprise away, but thanks to the volunteers who have given us their time and devotion to help us in our dog rescue and adoption efforts, we wouldn't want to overlook thanking them, as well.”

The weekend event will be held at the Petco in Burbank on Saturday November 22 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Sunday November 23 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

About The MuttShack Animal Rescue Foundation
The MuttShack is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established in 2005 that works to stop the killing of healthy animals in overcrowded shelters. MuttShack responded to Hurricane Katrina and established the only free full service triage facility in the City of New Orleans where our volunteers rescued and provided critical care to over 3,000 animals. “The Katrina Promise” became MuttShack’s ongoing mission and the organization began working with local, state and federal authorities with which it had formed cooperative relationships during its Katrina rescue efforts. This work culminated in the largest mass-evacuation of pets in US History as Hurricane Gustav was bearing down on the Louisiana coast in late August 2008.

The MuttShack's ongoing mission now focuses primarily on dog rescue from overcrowded animal shelters, holding weekly adoptions at Petco – Burbank, and has found homes for over 1200 dogs over the past three years. Website: muttshack.com
