Moscow, Russia, February 20, 2015 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- On February 14th Director general of the Russian State Nuclear Agency Rosatom, Sergey Kirienko, welcomed Qian Zhimin, General Manager of The China National Nuclear Corporation CNNC. The meeting in Moscow was to address the prospects of countries' future cooperation in nuclear energy.

S. Kirienko and the head of the Chinese nuclear corporation have discussed promising areas of cooperation. The head of Rosatom Sergey Kirienko and the director of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) Qiang Zhimin met in Moscow on Saturday and discussed future cooperation of the two corporations in nuclear power, reported the press service of the Russian state corporation. Russia and China have actively developed nuclear cooperation for many years. As has been reported earlier, Rosatom and CNNC also signed a protocol concerning the start of discussion of possible format of cooperation in NPP construction in third-party countries. Besides, at the end of July 2014, Rusatom Overseas and the Chinese CNNC New Energy signed a memorandum on constructing floating NPPs. China is primarily interested in using floating NPPs to provide energy for islands and offshore hydrocarbon deposits. The Russian party is interested in constructing a series of such NPPs rather than one power plant. With the support of Rosatom, China has constructed two power units of the Tianwan NPP, two other units are being built, and negotiations on constructing the seventh and eighth units of the Tianwan NPP are conducted. Russia and China are discussing the possibility of constructing NPPs in Mainland China which needs electricity badly. In August, it was reported that Rosatom had already been proposed constructing two power units there. Besides, negotiations on fast neutron reactor projects continue.
