NFL veteran Tutan Reyes’s scholarship fund hosts first annual awards benefit

New York, NY, June 12, 2015 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- In continuing their dedication to assist students in need, Beyond the Boroughs National Scholarship Fund honored Roblé Ali, Celebrity Chef, Judi Friedman, Senior Trial Attorney, US Department of Justice, and Ron Goldstock, NYS Commissioner, Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor at their First Annual Awards Ceremony last night at the Dream Downtown Hotel. The event, which also featured the non-profit’s founder Tutan Reyes and scholarship recipients Amy Pruim and Christian Hernandez, raised additional funds for future scholarship recipients. Notable media attendees included The Huffington Post and Fusion Magazine, while sponsors included Biagio Cru and Estate Wines, L.L.C. During the silent auction portion of the evening, guests had the opportunity to win an array of prizes, including a round of golf at Winged Foot, Clique by Roble Perfume, and 1983 Vintage Dominus Wine. The awards dinner was the second fundraiser for the charity this year and follows the success of the NFL Draft Fundraiser in April.

“I’m thankful for Chef Roble, Judi Friedman, and Ron Goldstock and their continued contributions to our organization.” Says Reyes. “We couldn’t have expressed our gratitude to them in a better way. Through them as well as the rest of our board members and our staff, we make college a reality for many students. This was just a small token of appreciation to them.”

Since its inception in 2007, Beyond the Boroughs offers general scholarships for up to $5,000 per year over four years and provides named scholarships under personal, family or business titles that can help pay for a student’s semester. The charity is continuing their fundraising efforts to award the 2015 applicants that applied between January 15 and March 15. Students from across the country that are in need of financial assistance to continue their academic achievements, and in many cases, represented first generation college students in their families for inner city communities, have attended colleges thanks to the tireless commitment of the non-profit.

“We have more work to do for the year, but this awards ceremony was a great way to continue on in our goals for 2015. We hope to award 10 additional scholarships and additional board members before 2015 ends.” Says Reyes.
