Delphian School Choir 4th in State

Released on = May 30, 2005, 4:01 pm

Press Release Author = The Delphian School

Industry = Education

Press Release Summary = The Delphian School Concert Choir received the 4th place trophy at the 1A/2A Oregon State Championships for schools with up to a 325 student enrollment.

Press Release Body = On May 6th, The Delphian School Concert Choir participated in the Oregon School Activities Association State Choir Championships at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon. It was the tenth consecutive appearance by the school’s choir. They performed an exciting program and received an enthusiastic response from the audience.

The Delphian School was the first of the twelve choirs to perform. The program started with a performance of Palestrina's “Sicut Cervus,” with the choir forming a
single line across the stage and out into the audience. Senior Corina Froese sang a beautiful solo to open the Irish folk song "She Moved the Fair," which was followed without break by the rousing “Afro-Celtic Diddle” by local composer Michael Coolen.
The choir then performed the moving “Lacrimosa” from Mozart's Requiem and closed with the gospel piece "Music Down in My Soul" by Moses Hogan. It was an exciting performance, and the choir rose to the occasion.

Next The Delphian School choir was escorted into the sight-reading room, where the choir had to demonstrate its ability to read music never seen before. The choir demonstrated their ability and received the 5th best score in the competition.

The members of the choir had the opportunity to listen to many of the fine choirs at this event. After a long wait the places were announced. The Delphian School was chosen as the 4th place choir in the state. Craig Bader, Choir Director at The Delphian School, and Senior Lexie Harrington, Choir Vice-President, proudly accepted the trophy.

“Whether the judges picked The Delphian School as one of the best choirs wasn't important, as the choir had done its very best and we were satisfied,” said Bader. “This is quite an honor as the top choirs at the 2A level are exceptional.”

The Delphian School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school offering college preparatory, English-as-a-Second-Language and summer programs for elementary through high school students. The Delphian School is licensed to use
Applied Scholastics(TM) educational services.
