Musculoskeletal health problems: A growing concern among Obese

Released on = July 19, 2005, 12:39 am

Press Release Author = Barbara Camie

Industry = Healthcare

Press Release Summary = Older people who are obese or over weight are at a higher risk of developing musculoskeletal health problems.

Press Release Body = Older people who are obese or over weight are at a higher risk of developing musculoskeletal health problems. A study carried out by the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore showed increasing
cases of pre frailty and frailty in obese people.

Women between the age groups of 70-79 were weak in their health and suffered from major diseases like diabetes, congestive heart failure, peripheral vascular
occlusive disease and osteoarthritis. Apart from these severe medical conditions, the increasing obese population in America also faces a foot problem which has its roots in Obesity. In general people carry nearly six times their body weight across the ankle joint when climbing stairs. Obesity increases the impact making more opportunities for health problems concerning the feet and ankles.

Men suffer from a pre-diabetic condition called carbohydrate intolerance which encourages fat deposits on muscle tissues causing critical damage to their foot. For women, the impact is much lower than men.

We cannot view Obesity as an aesthetic topic only but it is a worsening world health issue. If not contained in its youth, it will make sure; you suffer in old age with cardio vascular and musculoskeletal health problems.
