NCDOT Announces
Upcoming Traffic Shift
On U.S. 1/64 In Cary NCDOT To Shift Traffic On Northbound U.S. 1/64
Raleigh, NC
– The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will temporarily
shift northbound U.S. 1/64 traffic beginning Tuesday, August 16
at 8 p.m. to the newly constructed lanes on southbound U.S. 1/64.
Motorists can expect intermittent ramp closures on the US 1 northbound
to Walnut Street ramp and slow moving construction
vehicles on US 1 throughout the night while this shift is being
coordinated. The new pattern will affect northbound motorists from
just south of the Walnut Street exit ramp to just south of the I-40
interchange and will allow for the construction of new pavement
on the northbound lanes. This pattern will be in place until November
2005.
The U.S. 1/64
widening project is a $58 million project, that is anticipated to
be completed in late 2006 and will improve U.S. 1/64 from south
of the I-40 interchange to the U.S. 64/Tryon Road interchange in
Cary.
The NCDOT reminds
motorists to stay alert in the U.S. 1/64 work zone, obey the posted
speed limit of 55 mph, be aware of construction workers and watch
signs for construction information. The fine for speeding in the
work zone is $250 and three driver license points.
