North Carolina Secretary Of State Honored At Women In Business Awards Triangle Business Journal Names Elaine Marshall To Exclusive List Of Triangle Business Leaders

Raleigh, NC – Elaine Marshall, North Carolina’s Secretary of State, was recognized as one of the Triangle’s top businesswomen by the Triangle Business Journal at the “Women in Business Awards” event held on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at the Sheraton Imperial in Research Triangle Park. Marshall was honored as one of 25 Triangle female executives who have displayed leadership in business and was presented with the award at the ceremonial luncheon.

“Women are rapidly changing the face of business in our nation, and I am honored to be considered a leader by my peers,” said Marshall. “The growing power of women-owned businesses greatly contributes to our economy and I hope my experience
will influence others to stake out their own success as leaders in business.”

About Elaine Marshall:
Elaine Marshall has served as N.C. Secretary of State since 1997 when she became the first woman ever elected to statewide executive office. She has since made substantial strides in modernizing government record keeping, making public records accessible, researchable and transparent in North Carolina. Prior to becoming Secretary of State, Marshall served on the NC Senate and was a partner with the law firm of Marshall & Marshall and earned a reputation for standing up for citizens’ consumer rights and women’s rights. She has previously served as Senator
representing the 15th District of North Carolina and is an active member of the NC State Bar, the NC Bar Association, the NC Association of Women Attorneys, and the Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity.
