BBH Design Wins EDGE Award For WakeMed North Healthplex Emergency Department Architecture Firm Awarded Triangle Business Journal’s Project That Most Contributes to Quality of Life

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.– Rich Beale, Partner at BBH Design, announced that the firm has received the 2005 Triangle Business Journal’s EDGE Award, which recognizes excellence in the design, general contracting, engineering and landscape contracting
industries. The EDGE Awards were presented on October 12 at 6:00 p.m. at North Ridge Country Club.

BBH Design received the award in the category of “Project that most contributes to an improved quality of life in the Triangle” for its design of the WakeMed North Healthplex Emergency Department in Raleigh. The firm designed a pavilion integrated into a forecourt garden to enhance the patients’ experience without compromising
clinical efficiency and patient safety. The design is based on documented research proving staff and patient views of nature improve outcomes.

“We are honored to receive the EDGE Award for the WakeMed North Healthplex Emergency Department,” said Beale. “Throughout this project, both the client and the design team demonstrated progressive vision. The facility is the first of its kind in the state and breaks the mold of the traditional emergency department.”
