BBH Design Receives Merit Design Award
Architecture Firm Recognized for Buffaloe Road Athletic Park in Raleigh

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.– Douglas Hall, Partner at BBH Design, announced that the firm has received a Merit Design Award from the North Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIANC) for the Buffalo Road Athletic Park in Raleigh. Four other projects received merit awards in the AIANC program, which
received 73 project entries in this year’s Design Awards program, representing work from architectural firms throughout the Triangle region.

The award-winning Buffaloe Road Athletic Park design consists of two simple structures with shed roofs. The shed forms were inspired by the vernacular farm structures visible across North Carolina. The architectural elements of the shed form create an observable relationship to the existing landscape of the site. The galvanized steel columns and roof recall the vertical trunks and canopies of the
pine tress while the concrete masonry block wall recalls the rock outcroppings.

“We are pleased to receive this prestigious award from the American Institute of Architects,” said Hall. “We strive for excellence with each design and it is rewarding to have our efforts recognized.
