Antioxidant Rich Sources- An Examination

Released on = December 12, 2005, 11:24 am

Press Release Author = CancerPreventionReport.com

Industry = Small Business

Press Release Summary = Although touted by many companies as a superfood, scientists
do not currently believe antioxidant rich sources are a silver bullet in the fight
on cancer. Cancer prevention cannot be pinpointed to a single factor, but rather, a
lifestyle.

Press Release Body =
Arvada, CO - 12/15/05 - The antioxidant rich food industry is a multi-million dollar
one. Sales of antioxidant rich foods, from tea to cranberries, have increased in
response to headlines touting them as super foods able to cure society\'s health
ailments. Although the value of antioxidants in our diets is great, merely eating
antioxidant rich sources is not the magic answer to cancer prevention. Experts
don\'t believe cancer prevention can be attributed to a single factor alone.

It has been shown that antioxidants from antioxidant rich sources like blueberries
help squash the harmful chemicals that wind up in our bodies, called free radicals.
But there are many other factors thought to contribute to cancer such as obesity and
genetics.

In addition, many scientists believe other chemicals in these antioxidant rich
sources might play a role in combination with the antioxidants themselves to help
prevent disease. For example, studies using beta carotene supplements have not
shown the promising results once expected in the field of cancer prevention.
Therefore, an antioxidant extract may not have as much impact on overall health. It
just may be that other compounds in these foods are necessary to activate the health
benefits of antioxidants. It is also possible that altogether different food sources
may help trigger the beneficial effects of antioxidants.

\"People need to realize that it\'s definitely not OK to smoke two packs of cigarettes
a day as long as they counteract it with a handful of blueberries or a dietary
supplement high in antioxidants, \" says Lisa Ginger, a molecular biologist and owner
of www.cancerpreventionreport.com. \"A well-rounded, healthy diet and lifestyle is
what\'s important. Eating antioxidants is not likely to make up for a poor diet or a
lifestyle riddled with poor choices.\"

So while it\'s important to incorporate antioxidant rich sources in our diets, there
are many other factors to consider when seeking the keys to cancer prevention.
