Wholesale Roses And Other Plants Are Feeling A Crunch From Higher Fuel Costs

Press Release Body = The increase of fuel costs over the past couple of years is
causing a problem for some growers of wholesale roses and other plants.

Although the increase in fuel prices may be apparent at the gas pump, it is also
affecting an unlikely source. Wholesale growers of a number of plants that rely on
greenhouses to maintain a specific temperature are suffering tremendous losses due
to the additional expense of fuel.
http://www.wholesaleroses3.com/articles/wholesale-roses.html has more information.

In particular, poinsettia growers in the northern states are having to reduce the
amount of crop they plant in order to be able to care for the plants. With heating
costs two times what they were last year, some growers are also increasing the price
of their plants to accommodate their growing expenses.

Poinsettias are native of Mexico and therefore are not particularly resistant to
extremely cold temperatures. For this reason, the plants must be kept between 68
and 70 degrees to maintain the health of the plant. In parts of the country that
have considerably lower temperatures, a great deal of heating is required to
maintain the proper temperature and avoid having to ship plants in from other parts
of the country.

However, for those that are forced to ship plants in are also paying higher prices
due to the increase in transportation costs also because of the price of fuel.

What is the result of the impact of the increased expense on wholesale distributors?
While many of the plants will still be available, they will more than likely carry
a larger price tag. Also, quality plants may be more difficult to find as some
growers will try to cut costs at the expense of their plants. Others will simply
choose not to grow, shrinking the availability of many plants.
