Chinese New Year!

Press Release Body = On Jan 30th, the Delphi Academy of San Francisco Bay celebrated
Chinese New Year! The whole school participated with a parade going through the
classrooms making lots of noise. Delphi Academy has children from many nationalities
and often participates in celebrations from the various cultures of its students.

Chinese New Year starts with a new moon and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The
15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at
night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade. New Year's
Eve and New Year's Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and
thanksgiving.

The Delphi Academy students had a parade with the decorations they made. Some of the
children wore traditional clothes. The Beginner 1 class made firecrackers, the
Beginner 2 class made beautiful lanterns, the Form 1 Class made beautiful fans, and
the Form 2 students made dragons! The Form 3 students made origami poppers and
passed out red envelopes to all. The Forms 4 and 5 students passed out gifts such as
fruit, tangerines, oranges and the other students exchanged candy. The parade was
organized by the Form 2 Teacher Victoria Raiburn.
