Come and See - an Intimate View of the World of Mother Teresa

Released on = April 18, 2006, 12:34 pm

Press Release Author = Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon - Bethany Center

Industry = Non Profit

Press Release Summary = Linda Schaefer, author and photojournalist, to share her
poignant experience of Mother Teresa

Press Release Body = BEAVERTON, April 18, 2006 - The Bethany Center at Sisters of
Saint Mary of Oregon is honored to host Linda Schaefer, former CNN editor and
photographer, in a discussion about her book, Come and See - A Photojournalist's
Journey into the World of Mother Teresa, Saturday, May 6, 2006. As the last
professional photographer to have full access to Mother Teresa prior to the illness
that ended her life, Schaefer has a unique perspective on the Nobel Peace Prize
winner and her remarkable humanity.

Schaefer met Mother Teresa when she was hired by the Archdiocese of Atlanta to
photograph Mother Teresa's 1995 visit. This experience was the catalyst for her
desire to gain intimate knowledge of Mother Teresa's world. Through tenacity and her
own willingness to gain personal exposure to Mother Teresa's sphere by working in an
orphanage in Calcutta, Schaefer built a deep relationship with Mother Teresa that
culminated in a generous invitation for Schaefer to come and see - to photograph all
Schaefer felt would show the real environment in which Mother Teresa, her nuns and
volunteers lived and worked.

The lecture will take place on Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Valley
Catholic School Auditorium, located on the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon campus,
4275 SW 148th Avenue (at the corner of TV Highway and Murray Blvd.), Beaverton. The
cost is $25 and includes lunch. For more information, call
503-644-9181 or visit the Sisters' website at www.ssmo.org.
