46 per cent of People Don`t Know What a Stakeholder Pension is According to a Recent Survey

Released on = June 2, 2006, 8:12 am

Press Release Author = Stakeholder-Pensions.org.uk

Industry = Financial

Press Release Summary = A recent survey has revealed that although many people are
concerned that the state pension will not provide enough money for their retirement,
they are unsure of the alternatives.

Press Release Body = A recent survey carried out by Stakeholder-Pensions.org.uk
revealed that although many people are concerned that the state pension will not
provide enough money for their retirement, they are unsure of the alternatives.

The survey showed that the majority of those questioned (87%) had heard of
stakeholder pensions. However, a significant proportion of these people (46%) were
unsure about what a stakeholder pension actually is.

In the wake of the pension crisis these findings are extremely worrying. Drastic
measures are currently being discussed in Whitehall because the government has woken
up to the fact that the basic state pension is inadequate.

Stakeholder pensions were introduced by the government in 2001 for this reason. They
were designed to give people a second pension in addition to the basic state
pension.

The fact that so many people are confused about what stakeholder pensions actually
are will be very worrying for the government.

Stakeholder-Pensions.org.uk is an independent organisation that specialises in
offering people up to date and easy to understand information about stakeholder
pensions. It also invites its website visitors to have a free consultation with an
impartial expert.

A spokesperson for the website said,

"It is very worrying that so many people do not understand the benefits offered by
stakeholder pensions. Our aim is to explain these benefits to them and clear up any
confusion that they might have."
