Anti virus solution if you bank with Barclays

Released on = May 31, 2006, 9:27 am

Press Release Author = Century Computing Support Services

Industry = Computers

Press Release Summary = Anti virus solutions are dished out to Barclays online
banking customers, and Century discuss the options for business users.

Press Release Body = Every single Barclays bank customer who uses online banking is
being given a free copy of the basic F-Secure anti virus suite which normally
retails for £45 for two years. The free software also includes two years worth of
updates to ensure that customer's computers are adequately protected.

Barnaby Davis, director of Electronic Banking at Barclays Bank, commented,
"F-Secure's Anti-Virus product will provide our customers with excellent protection,
giving them peace of mind when using the Internet and banking online, without
annoying them with pop-ups and confusing instructions"

Research had found that 56% of consumers do not have an active anti-virus solution
running on their home computers; which if they are conducting banking transactions
and buying goods online is a very risky business.

Barclays, like Lloyds TSB and the Alliance and Leicester is just the latest bank to
take steps to protect its online banking clients. In addition to a free anti virus
solution, Barclays also send text messages to users, when money is moved using their
online accounts.

Rob Green, Managing Director of computer support company Century Computing
(http://www.CenturyComputing.co.uk) commented that "this is an applaudable step
taken by Barclays and every single PC should be protected by some kind of anti virus
and firewall solution. Businesses are in an even more precarious position than
consumers, especially when conducting ecommerce or storing sensitive customer data
and we will not provide communications lines like ADSL, SDSL and MPLS if an
enterprise firewall solution is not available at the customer's site. It would just
be irresponsible."
