New Bathtub Design Adapts to Changing Needs for Baby Boomers

Released on = May 3, 2006, 2:08 pm

Press Release Author = Safety Bath Inc.

Industry = Construction

Press Release Summary = Innovative bathtub design to satisfy construction industry
demands for universal bathtub design that accomodates needs of the changing baby
boomer generation by allowing for "aging in place".

Press Release Body = Tom and Harriet, at age 55, are entering retirement and
considering downsizing to an adult retirement community, where they hope to remain
for perhaps the remainder of their lives. They are aware that universal design in
their new home will be of utmost importance and they are looking for housing that
will accommodate them comfortably. While Tom likes to shower, Harriet loves the
relaxation of a bath. Harriet's mother, who visits often, cannot access a regular
bathtub and would need assistance in the shower. Over 55ers like Tom and Harriet
are looking for a home that will adapt to their changing needs as they grow older.

Contractors involved in the construction of retirement residences for tenants in the
50 and over age bracket have expressed a need for a bathtub that allows more
versatility. The affluence of the baby boomer market is directing the construction
trade to investigate universal and barrier free design to accommodate the changing
needs of this age group.

Safety Bath Inc., manufacturer of the walk-in bathtub since 1992, has addressed the
dilemma with the introduction of a regular-sized bathtub with a door, the Safety
Bath So-Lo. The So-Lo, with its attractive, non-threatening design fits comfortably
into a home-like setting. The door allows barrier-free bathtub access, to allow
bathing but can also be used as a shower. With the addition of optional whirlpool
and alcove with heated seating, the So-Lo proves to be the answer to the bathing
dilemma in retirement housing allowing the user to "age in place"

For the developer/contractor right down to the end-user, the Safety Bath So-Lo has
obvious advantage over existing bathtub/shower arrangements commonly found in
housing.
1. One unit now provides both a bathtub and shower, thus saving bathroom space.
2. The housing unit can be utilized through changes in mobility brought about by aging.
3. Increased property resale value due to the universal design.
4. Provides a safe bathing option.

For Safety Bath Inc., the So-Lo is an addition to an already successful line of
accessible bathtubs. The Safety Bath Standard is a compact walk in bathtub. With a
very low entry step and outward door swing, this model is the original walk-in
bathtub, designed out of necessity for the inventor's father.

Safety Bath Inc. also manufactures a compact institutional bathtub, the Safety Bath
Supreme, which features a hygienic 12 jet San-Air System eliminating the risk of
bacterial contamination when multiple users access the same bathtub. ###
