IT Online School Director Edits Cybersecurity Textbook

Released on = August 17, 2006, 1:23 pm

Press Release Author = Virginia College Online

Industry = Education

Press Release Summary = Eric Salveggio, IT Program Director at Virginia College
Online, is working with Pearson on a cyber forensics textbook.

Press Release Body = Eric Salveggio, Virginia College Online\'s IT Program Director
and Chief Security Officer, recently edited a cyber security textbook. Salveggio is
also working on a test bank to accompany the textbook, which will be published by
Pearson.

The textbook, which teaches principles of cybersecurity such as computer forensics
and preventing Internet fraud and hacking, will most likely be integrated into
Virginia College Online\'s graduate program in cybersecurity. The Masters of
Cybersecurity program instructs students in the secure management of LAN, WLAN, and
WAN systems. Through hands-on simulations and labs, students learn about cyber
security issues such as operating systems, viruses, and compliance issues.
Graduates of the program will know how to manage networks, firewalls, and the secure
transfer of data, as well as protecting against Internet fraud and hacking.

Editing textbooks and writing test material is not the only tribute to Salveggio\'s
expertise. "Our Masters of Cybersecurity [program] has folks from the Army,
Department of Homeland Security, and corporate security either investigating it or
taking the course," said Salveggio.

In operation for more than 20 years, Virginia College is an accredited college that
offers everything from certificates, diplomas, and associate\'s degrees, to
bachelor\'s and master\'s degrees. Although the school has physical campuses in
Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas, Virginia College Online offers
students the flexibility of online degree programs. The programs at Virginia
College Online are geared toward helping students complete their degrees quickly and
conveniently. The school also offers financial aid to qualified students, a
comprehensive price that even includes the cost of textbooks, and a tuition rate
that is guaranteed not to go up as long as the student stays in school.
Additionally, Virginia College Online offers career placement assistance to its
program graduates.
