LONDON, England September 26th, 2006 - Two English filmmaker friends made a pact over ten years ago at Heathrow airport that they would support each others careers as one left on a plane or Sydney, Australia. This month, nearly ten years later, both their films were selected and screen at the Raindance Film Festival, on the same day. what are the odds?
Press Release Body = Galvin Scott Davis and Sacha Bennett met as extras on the set of Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet nearly ten years ago. Sharing the same passion for film and dedication to creating their careers in the cutthroat film industry - the two quickly became friends, and hatched a plan to support their professional careers.
Galvin, hailing from Kent, followed his girlfriend to Australia in 1998 and the two friends took an oath to continue striving to help each other as writers, actors and directors. Galvin followed his passion of acting as Sacha followed his passion for writing and directing, both with degrees of success - until this year, when everything changed.
Both made stand-out pieces of celluloid, 'do-or-die' films with the intention of launching themselves onto the Hollywood platform. Both succeeding beyond expectations.
Galvin's work - The Australian short film 'Brother' has won both the prestigious Beverly Hills and Silver Lake Film Festivals in a whirlwind two weeks in Los Angeles, from over 1,500 entries at each festival. He was swiftly signed by Hollywood agents Brant Rose Agency and by top Australian agency RGM Associates, who represent Cate Blanchett amongst others.
The film has struck U.S. audiences in particular with its tragic tale of two brothers faced with an impossible task. This is Galvin's first film as Director and was inspired by the loss of a close relative to Cancer, leaving a resounding and lasting effect on viewers at its screenings. It has won numerous awards and screened at over 15 international festivals to date.
Sacha's film 'Devilwood' is a stunning Horror that stars renowned British actor John Simm, star of TV's 'Life on Mars'. The success of the film has resulted in Sacha being snapped up by UK literary agents Darley Anderson Associates and he begins work on his first feature as Director this year.
The two friends will be re-united again on October 2nd at the Trocadero screenings of their films, one English, one Australian. and both with special thanks to the other as the end credits roll.
