"Rift Zone" (Forge Books).

Executive director Michael Steven Gregory, an accomplished writer and filmmaker,
attributes much of the SCWC's success to its sense of community. "Writing is about
the only business where one must measure success most often by the quality of your
rejection," he explained, "Too many aspiring writers work in isolation and don't get
the necessary feedback from empirically qualified professionals on what's working or
not working in their material, or how to fix it. Consequently, they're doomed to
repeat mistakes they may not even aware of, falling into a cycle of rejection from
agents and editors that they can't understand. The SCWC is all about providing
writers access to this vibrant, resourceful community in order to troubleshoot
problematic aspects in their material, make crucial publishing connects, understand
the latest trends in the business and better their odds of getting published."

With over 50 day- and nighttime sessions workshop leaders and speakers for the
February conference include breakout authors Amy Wallen ("Moonpies and Movie
Stars"), Robert Gregory Browne ("Kiss Her Goodbye") and Alexandra Sokoloff ("The
Harrowing") -- each with a two-book deal resulting from their debut titles --
