Vice President of India, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat will inaugurate the first
National Convention of the Indian Media Centre (IMC) at Hyderabad on February 4,
2007, according to Mr. Ashok Singhi, Ludhiana-based senior journalist and Secretary
of the IMC.

Delegates from all over India, including the northeast and the southern most state
of Kerala are likely to participate in the two-day convention. It will discuss and
deliberate over issues of media credibility, social responsibility and denial of
freedom and independence to media professionals. A national seminar on SHOULD
JOURNALISTS BE ACTIVISTS will form part of the deliberations. A new website
(www.imconweb.com) will also be launched on this occasion.

IMC that was launched last year is an all-India independent non-profit institution
that seeks to bring all players in the industry - publishers, editors, senior
journalists, media educators and public relations executives - on one platform to
pool their resources to meet the challenges Indian media faces. It is an
independent, non-profit institution dedicated to professional ethics, improvement
and consolidation of media education, in-service training for media persons and
protecting independence and freedom of media.

Dr, Chandan Mitra, Editor-in-Chief of Pioneer and Mr. Shyam Khosla, a former Bureau
Chief of the Tribune have been unanimously elected Chairman and Director of the
Indian Media Centre. Dr. Mitra will take over as Chairman of the Indian Media Centre
at Hyderabad convention.
