Young African American Author Writes Inspiring Novel to Encourage Other Young
African Americans

. Poughkeepsie, NY, January 24, 2007: Shanea Patterson, an experienced writer for
many years is publishing and releasing her first novel, titled Taking A Chance. The
central idea of the novel is to encourage the audience to takes chances in life by
not holding back in anything they do. With a strong plot and memorable, tantalizing
characters, this novel grabs the attention of its readers and takes them to the
places in the story. With mild language and a strong cultural reflection, this novel
is in its essence will be a crucial part of African American fiction this year.
Appealing to African American youth with a positive overall message, the novel is
expected to bring in a huge audience.

Making A Difference In Her Own Community

Growing up in a town with less than enough opportunity to go around, Shanea
Patterson wants to send more than one message to other young African Americans as
well as the youth from her own community. "People that live here don't really
believe in themselves enough and I want to show them that kids from Poughkeepsie can
make it big," Shanea says. After recently graduating from Poughkeepsie High School,
Shanea decided to take her love for writing to the next level. Writing novels since
elementary school, Shanea has come along way trying to figure out how to get her
work published. "This is an opportunity I can't possibly pass up. This is my dream,"
she says. Self-publishing with Lulu (www.lulu.com) has made it easier to get her
work noticed.
