Press Release Summary = Southeast Asian countries trying to attract Gulf tourists by
offering comparatively lower costs of healthcare

Press Release Body = Countries in Southeast Asia have discovered a new and effective
tool in the form of "Comparatively Lower Costs of Healthcare" for bringing in the
tourists from Middle East.

DOHMS (Dubai\'s Dept. of Health & Medical Services) and Health Ministry of Singapore
have signed a MoU for promoting the collaboration in the field of healthcare. This
deal is expected to encourage greater cooperation between healthcare set ups in
Dubai and Singapore.

\"Singapore continues to look at ways to ensure that overseas patients who are
looking for treatment within our advanced system have the opportunity to access it,\"
said Ke-Wei Peh, Singapore Tourism Board's director for Middle East and Africa, as
per the news published in Gulf News.

\"Our vision is to provide a complementary offering to healthcare systems across the
Middle East, with a focus on advanced and innovative areas of medicine within
Singapore,\" said Ke.

On an average about 200 patients per month visited Singapore from Middle East &
Africa region to get treated in the year 2006. Treatments offered in India range
from the simple procedure of facelift to the complex heart surgery.

Govt. agencies & firms from Southeast Asian region are working in collaboration, so
that comprehensive offering can be provided to medical tourists. The tourists being
focused are those looking for advanced treatment for complicated procedures
overseas.

As per RNCOS report on "Opportunities in Asian Medical Tourism (2007-2010)", in
terms of revenue generation from Medical tourism, Singapore has always been the
forerunner in developing medical tourism. The country is next only to Thailand. The
country generated US$ 915 Million from medical tourism in 2005. However, it will
likely reach US$ 1600 Million by 2012, representing a CAGR of 8.31%. The govt. is
optimistic about promoting general surgery, medicine & other specialist services,
comprising cardiology and organ transplant.
