(Boston, MA) Guitarist/composer Matthew Joy, best known for his solo nylon and
12-string guitar composing and playing, recently formed an acoustic experimental
jazz ensemble called Orchestra of This. Along with Boston percussionist Brian
O\'Neill (WAITIKI, Gato Malo, independent), Serbian violinist Jozef Nadj
(independent), and bassist Colin Kenniff (independent) the group will soon give
several live performances in Massachusetts including one at the Acton Jazz Cafe on
May 4th, 2007opening for Kathleen Kolman.

Orchestra of This can best be described as "third-stream music," a term coined in
1957 by composer Gunther Schuller, describing a genre that blends modern
classical/chamber sounds with jazz. While not strictly jazz or classical, Orchestra
of This draws from both, creating its own genre and requiring proficiency in the
two. The violin and multi-percussion setup (ranging from udu, cajon, doumbek,
bodhran, to the kitchen sink) bring a new twist to the genre and to Mr. Joy's music
(the composer of the group's works).

Matt has been performing his solo compositions for the past six years in local
venues including the Lizard Lounge and the Zeitgeist in Cambridge, David Friend
recital hall at Berklee College of Music, P.A.\'s Lounge in Somerville and the
Brewdawakening in Lowell. He has also performed extensively in New York City,
including an opening for virtuoso guitarist Preston Reed at the Knitting Factory in
Manhattan.

Influenced by the guitar artistry of Ralph Towner and Egberto Gismonti among others,
Matt dedicated himself to developing the craft of composing and solo guitar playing
as a student at Berklee College of Music in the 1990s. "The solo setting has a lot
going for it," said Matt Joy "it can be an intimate and personal relationship with
an audience and it also allows you to explore the many possibilities of the
instrument." While the solo setting has been fulfilling to him, Matt, wanted to
explore the possibilities an ensemble could bring to his compositions. "Right now,
the group is new and fresh with ideas and creativity. It is a treat to be playing
with such wonderful musicians."

Orchestra of This will be recording an album this summer. More information is
