Press Release Summary = Dr. Frank Stuhmeier, Senior Principle Scientist in the
Primary Pharmacology Group will present on "Centralized Assay Development and
Primary Screening" at GTCbio's 2nd Assay Development & High Throughput Screening

Press Release Body = Dr. Frank Stuhmeier, Senior Principle Scientist in the Primary
Pharmacology Group will present on "Centralized Assay Development and Primary
Screening" at GTCbio's 2nd Assay Development & High Throughput Screening Conference
on May 31-June 1 in Boston, MA.

Plate-based primary screening is one of the most important and resource intensive
steps in the early stage drug discovery process. In 2005 it was decided to
centralize all SAR supporting primary screening at Pfizer Sandwich including
compound processing, assay development, primary screening and reagent production
into one newly formed department. The formation of the new department was a
challenging task, but it gave us the unique opportunity to review and redesign the
primary screening workflow, the assay infrastructure and the assay protocols for
each single project at Pfizer Sandwich. As a result, we managed to improve the
efficiency and the quality of SAR generation process significantly, mainly by
streamlining the compound delivery processes, normalizing similar procedures, and
implementing best practice in both assay development as well as assay execution.

GTCbio's 2nd Assay Development & High Throughput Screening Conference on May 31-June
1 will take place at the Omni Parker House in downtown Boston, MA. The meeting will
be held concurrently with GTCbio's 2nd Protein Kinases in Drug Discovery Conference.
