Keep the Wheels Rolling-Skate Park Committe Collects Cell Phones to Raise $150,000 Needed for Construction

Released on = June 19, 2007, 9:27 am

Press Release Author = Amber Johnson

Industry = Non Profit

Press Release Summary = Committee in Pequannock, NJ is raising funds to build a
skate park. \"Keep the Wheels Rolling\" needs to raise $150,000 for construction.
They are collecting cell phones as a fundraiser for the project.

Press Release Body = June 19, 2007---Pequannock, N.J.---The Skate Park Dream started
as a Social Studies "Take Action" project at Pequannock Valley Middle School by
Jacob Winterfield, Chris Zack, and Andy Stampfl in December 2005. Being
skateboarders, they hoped to have a skate park built in Pequannock. In March 2006,
as part of the project given by their teacher Mrs. Dykstra, the boys presented to
the Boys & Girls Club in Pequannock the idea of building a skate park in conjunction
with the town's Parks and Recreation Department, but it was not approved due to
wetlands constraints on the property. In August 2006 Keep the Wheels Rolling Skate
Park Committee was formed by the boys and their moms. The committee has taken on a
life of its own. With the action the committee has taken, the Township Council
approved the building of a skate park in Pequannock for spring of 2008. They
committed $15,000 in seed money and to building the skate park's infrastructure once
the funds were raised to purchase the equipment. Keep the Wheels Rolling is
chartered with raising $150,000 to purchase the equipment between now and Spring
2008.

Many fundraisers are being formulated to help generate the funds. One of the
fundraisers is a cell phone drive. The committee is collecting used and inactive
cell phones. They are asking the public to donate their old phones, which will be
sent to a company which pays for and recycles them. Cell phone donations may be
brought to Specialty Sports, 637 Route 23 South, Pompton Plains, N.J. Cell phones
may also be mailed to that address. For more information on the skate park or the
cell phone fundraiser, contact Cathy Winterfield at (973) 476-7230.
