Orbiscom major patent is alleged to be an infringement of a Syrdrec patent

Released on = August 7, 2007 2:47 am

Press Release Author = \"SYRDREC SA\"

Industry =

Masseube (France) - SYRDREC SA provisionally claims €21 mln from Orbiscom Ltd, its
subsidiaries and Gie Carte Bleue because of an alleged wilful violation of its
patent by all these companies. Actually, the Controlled Payment Number (CPN) of
Orbiscom is supposed to be based on a Syrdrec patent, registered in France since
1991.

In 1991, SYRDREC SA had an alliance with EDS-GFI, a company of the EDS group, in
order to launch the TictelÒ system in France. The system never came to the market
because of conflicting market conditions.

In 2002, SYRDREC SA discovered that Gie Carte Bleue (representing VISA Cards in
France) had just launched a remote payment service named “e-Carte Bleue”, seriously
supposed to be an infringement of its patent. Syrdrec also discovered that VISA
International was using a similar system everywhere in the world.

The case is now under the judgement of the Court of Appeal of Toulouse (France).
SYRDREC SA demands a provision of €21 mln from Orbiscom and its business partners,
anticipating the final claim.

To date, Orbis Patents Ltd, a Orbiscom subsidiary holding said Orbiscom major
patent, has never filed any pleadings, just trying to avoid by all means its
intervention in the proceedings. Recently, it has even attempted to mislead the
Appeal Court of Toulouse by using a forgery affirming the Syrdrec patent would be
definitely null and void because its nullity would have already been filed in the
French National Registrar of Patents (RNB) held by the INPI, on request - supposedly
- of the Court of Toulouse.

The Court of Toulouse has, obviously, declared it has never made such a request and
the Appeal Court of Toulouse has, consequently, ordered Orbis Patents Ltd to produce
the documents proving its allegations, with obligation for it to pay out a penalty
for each day of delay and, anyway, with 13th September 2007 as a deadline before
setting the day of the final hearing before judgement.

SYRDREC SA is a French company, specialized in monetics and payment card systems
securisation. Orbiscom Ltd is based in Dublin (Ireland) and New York (USA).
