Press Release Body:
Cary, NC - EPA's universal waste regulations set standards for waste batteries,
pesticides, mercury-containing equipment, and lamps. Because these wastes are
similar to household wastes, many industrial facilities unlawfully dispose of some
of these wastes in their normal trash. Or, they misclassify as universal waste
common wastes that don't qualify, such as used oil and PCBs.

There are, however, detailed regulations governing the collection and management of
these widely generated wastes. Among the most common violations of these regulations
are the failure to properly label waste containers and keep them closed.

To ensure that Universal Wastes are managed in an environmentally sound manner,
Environmental Resource Center is offering a free electronic copy of its Universal
Waste Handbook, which normally retails for $99.00. The handbook provides
step-by-step procedures for the classification, storage, transportation, and
disposal of universal waste. It also includes a copy of the latest EPA universal
waste rules. To request a copy, go to http://www.ercweb.com/universal and enter VIP
code EPR.
