PKRA 2007 Chile Day 6

Released on: October 11, 2007, 3:49 am

Press Release Author: John Gotidoc

Industry: Entertainment

Press Release Summary: With no wind to fuel the games, the competitors went to
Santiago for some sightseeing, picture taking and shopping.

Press Release Body: As expected, the Movistar Kiteboarding World Cup 2007 went on
another wind delay going into its 6th day as the wind did not provide ample strength
to hold a competition. The sun went out in full force but the temperature was still
pegged at 15° Celsius while the 15 km/h breeze did not meet the PKRA standards. As a
result, race director Eric Troostheide decided to postpone the competition for the
day at around 11:00am. Many of the competitors organized themselves and a few of
them gathered cars and went to the city of Santiago for some sightseeing tours,
picture taking and shopping.

The event site in Matanzas, Chile is approximately 140 km from the nation's capital
of Santiago. It is a very small village where a lot of extreme water sports are
practiced due to its reliable wind conditions, strong waves and remoteness. This
time of the year, the average swell reaches 3-meters while the average wind speed is
20-30 km/h or 4 bft. (11-15 knots), cross or cross-onshore. As these past days have
demonstrated, the 20 km/h breeze are very typical but not enough power to sustain
the kites for some heart-pumping kiteboarding action.

Tomorrow's forecast maybe possible to start the events, although the wind will still
be light so the skippers meeting is set for 11:30 am with a first possible start at
12pm. Saturday still looks like the best day for the entire competition for both
wind and waves so for now the race organizers and the competitors are looking
forward to the weekend. Stay tuned!
