Industry: Computers

Press Release Summary: Dorset, Beds & Leics Police goes USB Biometric with
MicroRiver

Press Release Body: Dorset, Beds & Leics Police goes USB Biometric with MicroRiver.

In order to reduce concerns over moving IT data securely, Dorset, Beds &
Leicestershire Police Constabularies have taken positive steps to protect their IT
data with the use of a new Biometric USB flash pen drive. Most conventional USB
flash drives have little if no security features; so if they are lost or stolen then
anyone can access the data held on the USB stick via a PC. The new finger print
secure flash drives use Carry It Easy s/w from CoSoSys.

MicroRiver's USB drive has two levels of protection, 1) A conventional password, 2)
Biometric. Up to 10 finger print impressions can be stored. Hence the user would
need the password (if set up) or the correct finger print image to gain access to
either the 1GB, 2GB, 4GB or 8GB USB Flash Pen drive.

Typical applications of for the smaller devices are to store MS Offices data (e.g.
Word, PowerPoint), whilst the larger storage volumes have benefits in capturing high
resolution scene of crime images, and video capture within car number plate
recognition systems.

MK Information Security Officer at Dorset Police said

"We have been looking for this type of solution for a while. Microriver we even able
to give us a bespoke version of the security software so it is tailored to our
needs"

CL Service Desk Mgr, Bedfordshire Police said

"In the past there has been a trade off between user functionality and security. Now
we have been enabled to lock down the USB ports and still allowing approved data
transfers. We have even purchased the Carry It Easy s/w to give us password
protection on our normal flash drives"

TG ICT Mgr at Leicestershire Police added

"We like this device for it does not require admin rights to use or install, so it
does not impact our technical support team rolling out these flash drives"

Majid Ali Sales Director for MicroRiver commented that

"He was delighted that Dorset, Beds, & Leics Police Forces use this device, giving
us ten UK Police customers. In fact we have a further eleven UK police forces
evaluating the same product. This type of device is perfect for anyone moving or
carries data which needs to be secure; hence you will never be concerned if it was
lost or stolen"
