Press Release Summary: The British government has just announced it is scrapping
plans to construct a road tunnel under Stonehenge, the UK\'s most important World
Heritage Site.


Press Release Body: Transport Minister Tom Harris said: "Allocating £500m for the
implementation of this scheme cannot be justified."

In recent year's heritage and tourism groups have pushed for the development of the
site including a new, cutting edge heritage interpretation visitor attraction centre
at Amesbury and an ambitious 1.3-mile tunnel scheme that would reduce
traffic-related damage to the historic site and improve Stonehenge's setting.
