1-800-Charity Farms Delivers 2,000 Pounds of Fresh Produce to Needy

Released on: April 7, 2008, 10:02 am

Press Release Author: David Menzies

Industry: Non Profit

Press Release Summary: 1-800-Charity Farms, the victory garden for the 21st century,
has completed the delivery of almost 2,000 pounds of fresh, organically grown
vegetables to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida for distribution to area
needy.

Press Release Body: (Kissimmee, Fla.) 1-800-Charity Farms, the victory garden for
the 21st century, has completed the delivery of almost 2,000 pounds of fresh,
organically grown vegetables to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida for
distribution to area needy.

1-800-Charity Farms made four deliveries of fresh produce in the last few weeks to
Second Harvest, all within one-to-two days after harvest, allowing distribution to
those in need while the produce is still fresh.

\"Usually the produce we receive is at the end of its shelf life and we don\'t have
the refrigeration capacity to store it so many times we must decline to accept it,\"
said Greg Higgerson, Development Director for Second Harvest, adding that it is rare
to be able to receive large amounts of healthy, fresh food to feed shelter guests.

In the days ahead, 1-800-Charity Farms plans to deliver more vitamin-rich food such
as collard greens, zucchini, yellow squash, okra, broccoli, turnips, cucumbers,
green beans, potatoes, beets, winter squashes, sweet potatoes, carrots, onions,
watermelon and cabbage. The charity produces fresh, vine-ripened produce organically
farmed in a natural way with no pesticides to maximize its nutritional value for the
homeless, the economically impoverished and the elderly in Central Florida.

\"We\'re committed to the sound mind, sound body concept,\" said Brian Menzies,
president of 1-800-Charity Cars which founded 1-800-Charity Farms in March 2008.

\"Feeding the less fortunate members of our society and improving these individuals\'
physical well being with fresh, nutritious food helps them focus on other things
they need to get done to get back on their feet,\" he added.
