Making Writing Fun -- Local Learning Center Offers One of a Kind Day Camp That Teaches Students What it Takes to Enjoy the Glitz and Glamour of Theatre Performance

Released on: May 18, 2008, 6:09 pm

Press Release Author: Lauren G. Browne/Pathfinders

Industry: Education

Press Release Summary: Unique summer day camp available to kids in South Orange
County strengthens creative writing skills in a fun performance format.

Press Release Body: Rancho Santa Margarita, CA: May 19, 2008 -- Pathfinders
Creativity Camp
for Writing and Drama offers local kids, ages 8-14, a distinctive opportunity.
Kids will create their own live stage production from writing through
performance. On the last day of camp, the artists will present their work to
family and friends.

Veteran theatre lover and graduate of the prestigious USC School of Theatre
Lauren G. Browne loves sharing everything about the stage. But she learned
the hard way that behind all the \"glitz and glamour\" of performance hides
a mountain of hard, but fun work. For the first time in Orange County,
a group of select students will spend time with Lauren developing a theme,
writing, re-writing, rehearsing, costuming, and finally performing an original
drama production.

\"Living this close to Hollywood you would think that everyone would know
all the steps that have to take place,\" Browne said in a recent interview.
\"But I find that most students don\'t really understand the process.
This is a chance for kids to start at the beginning, with the idea, and then
through creative writing develop that idea into something special.\"

Writing is the key to making it all work. Campers will develop and strengthen
their writing abilities no matter what their skill level is. \"At Pathfinders we
give struggling students the tools they need to succeed in school and life,"
says Brenda Lana owner of Pathfinders in Rancho Santa Margarita. This
summer they are offering writing strategies to all students, both those who
are struggling and those who are looking to get ahead.

Parents gave past programs rave reviews. \"I couldn\'t believe that my son
would come home and work on his writing all by himself,\" said Diane, mother
of a 3rd grader. Mr. Bailey said, \"The performances were great and the kids
had written the plays by themselves.\"

Parents can choose from two camp sessions: July 14th-24th, or
August 4th-14th. Each camp session will meet Monday through
Thursday from 9AM to 1PM in Rancho Santa Margarita. For each two
week session tuition is just $397. For information call: 949-713-2300
