The news came as the Bank of England issued its bleakest assessment of the economic outlook for the UK in a decade. "The obvious reasoning", said a source close to strategists at World Capital Solutions, "was that as more Britons are squeezed by higher mortgage and utility bill payments, they were likely to need to raise cash informally. Moreover, the current dearth of credit facilities makes pawnbrokers a logical choice". World Capital Solution\'s source pointed to the potential creation of a new underclass without access to mainstream credit as being prime customers for pawnbrokers. Whilst the source wouldn't be drawn on naming specific stocks, he said the sector was uniquely-placed to benefit from the downturn in the UK. World Capital Solutions directs investment of some $40m of private client funds in a number of markets including commodities, equities and currency arbitrage.
