Press Release Body: Slingsby, leading suppliers of industrial and commercial
equipment are highlighting the importance of waste recycling for businesses. The
current landfill tax rates increased by 33% to £32.00 per tonne in April of this
year and the government intends to increase these by £8.00 per tonne each year so by
the 2010/2011 financial year, a level of £48.00 a tonne will be reached - a 100%
increase over 3 years. Organisations cannot afford to keep sending waste to
landfill and need to implement recycling and waste saving initiatives as soon as
possible in order to keep their costs down.

Slingsby have a wide range of recycling products to aid companies to encourage staff
and customers to recycle their cans, plastic and glass items alongside the more
usual paper and cardboard. Slingsby can supply labelling for bins, recycling
stations which segregate the different types of waste, recycling bins, can crushing
bins and lockable, secure waste bins for disposal of confidential documents. Their
twice yearly catalogue contains over 35,000 products for the workplace and the
Environmental and Waste section contains all an organisation needs to set up a
comprehensive recycling scheme.

The Landfill Directive (1999/31/EC, which was adopted by the European Union in 1999,
is beginning to drastically change the way the UK handles waste. The directive was
brought into force in the UK on June 15 2002 as the Landfill (England and Wales)
Regulations 2002, and since then it has been introduced in stages to give UK
industry time to adapt. The aim is to incentivise producers, consumers, and
disposers to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste and divert from landfill through tax
or trading.
