The first `green` building in Nunavik Uses Innovative Grid Connected Photovoltaic System to Reduce Energy Consumption

Released on: August 29, 2008, 11:49 am

Press Release Author: Matrix Energy Inc.

Industry: Environment

Press Release Summary: The new airport terminal located 1.5 km from the Northern
Village of Kuujjuaq includes a Photovoltaic (PV) system to reduce energy
consumption.

Press Release Body: Montreal, August 28, 2008- In 2005 the Government of Canada
initiated a project to renovate the Kuujjuaq Airport in northern Québec. The
renovations included the incorporation of a Photovoltaic (PV) system connected to
Hydro Québec's grid. The architecture and engineering of the system and its
incorporation onto the building's façade was carried out by Aedifica and consulting
engineering group Equation, with Matrix Energy providing technical assistance.
Matrix Energy also provided the system components, including 6.3kWp of Shell Solar /
SolarWorld monocrystaline solar modules and three (3) Fronius 2.5kW / 208VAC
grid-tie inverters. "Laval Fortin is proud of its partnership with Matrix Energy
with regards to the project at the Kuujjuaq Airport. We are pleased to have had the
opportunity to install this Photovoltaic system connected to Hydro Québec's grid,
and to demonstrate this renewable energy technology in the region of Nunavik,
northern Québec", says Sébastien Sheehy, Project Manager at Laval Fortin Adams,
installer of the PV system. This grid connected PV system is one of the first
installed in the far north and annual electricity generation is estimated at 5040kWh
- 5670kWh. This system allows the Airport to offset electricity consumption
normally drawn off the grid, as well as to further promote PV technology in Québec.

Matrix is committed to deliver high quality products and services to suit client
needs while making solid contributions to reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions. All
applications are environmentally friendly and energy efficient.

About Matrix Energy Inc: Matrix Energy Inc. works with building professionals,
