Now its beachside Resort in Skegness is getting in on the act with *The Great British Folk Festival. This is a truly top class event featuring live performances from The Legends of Folk Rock, the Gathering, including current and former member of Lindisfarne, Steeleye Span, Jethro Tull, Fairport Convention and Magna Carta. Also appearing live on stage are Acoustic Stawbs, still led by Dave Cousins, Sandi Thom, Kate Rusby and Richard Digance plus lots more.

The town of Skegness has a long and proud tradition of Folk music, in fact folk-rock legends Steeleye Span were named after a character in a local song, ‘Horkstow Grange’. Steeleye were one of the first bands to expand folk music beyond the folk clubs and into the singles and album charts

Folk music fans have always been open to new talent as well as hearing the infusion of other influences in the music; Celtic, Blues, Country, Rock…. even comedy - and many aspiring artists and bands were drawn to the folk clubs during the sixties and early seventies, knowing that their music would be listened to and allowed to develop.

Many of those artists continued that musical experimentation throughout a decades-long career.

The Great British Folk Festival aims to reflect this light and shade of Folk music, with the familiar, the not so familiar, the new and the ‘hang on, didn’t he used to play with….?’. In the latter capacity, the festival boasts performers who are former or current members of such bands as – Lindisfarne, Fairport Convention, Dire Straits, The Blues Band, Strawbs, Boomtown Rats, Cat Stevens band, Jethro Tull, Rory Gallagher band, Smokie and …Steeleye Span.
