End of Buddhist Lent Day is also known as Ok Pansa, and it is marked in Phuket with a series of celebrations. The celebrations also mark the end of the rainy season in the country and this year fall on the 23rd October.

One of the events to mark the occasion is the presentation of foods and other offerings to the monks as they prepare themselves for a retreat. People visit temples to pay their respects, and houses and temples across the country will have candles lit outside.

The royal family of Thailand will take part in a number of ceremonies, handing over robes to the monks and there is an impressive barge procession which carries the royal party from the Palace to the temple. More than 50 barges can be seen in this procession and visitors come from all over the world to view this spectacular display of pageantry, as the barges are finely decorated and lit up.

Finding a hotel in Phuket is fairly easy as there are many to choose from and there are plenty to be found along the route of the procession. There are hotels to suit all budgets and tastes and all are ideally located for finding your way around town, although the public transport links are excellent.

The Head of Marketing at DirectRooms.com, Lek Boonlert, said, “This area is extremely popular with visitors, especially for this event, so booking hotel accommodation as far in advance as possible is advisable in order to avoid disappointment.”
