LateRooms.com - Berlin to Welcome Janelle Monae

One of the most exciting new talents to emerge in the music industry this year is due to perform in Berlin on Tuesday December 14th.

American star Janelle Monae has been lavished with critical attention since releasing her debut album The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III) in May 2010.

Signed by Sean 'P Diddy' Combs on the recommendation of Big Boi from Outkast, the 24-year-old from Kansas City has won almost universal praise for her eclectic and ambitious approach to R&B songwriting.

The Guardian described Monae as a leading contender for the title of "this decade's most interesting pop star", noting her skill in embellishing tracks with a rich blend of high-concept, science-fiction inspired reference points.

Influential music website Pitchfork was also full of praise for the album, with reviewer Matthew Perpetua explaining how its songs "zip gleefully from genre to genre, mostly grounded in R&B and funk, but spinning out into rap, pastoral British folk, psychedelic rock, disco, cabaret, cinematic scores and whatever else strikes her fancy".

Fans staying in Berlin hotels can see Monae's genre-defying approach to 21st century music live on stage at the Postbahnhof am Ostbahnhof next month.

The gig is likely to include a performance of recent single Tightrope, which features Big Boi, as well as songs from her earlier EP Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase).

Tickets are priced at €26.25 (£22.30) plus booking fee and can be purchased online, with the show due to begin at 20:00 local time.
