Seville's Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporaneo (CAAC) has
unveiled an exhibition entitled Publics and Counterpublics, which
explores what it is to be a spectator.
Art enthusiasts should be sure to schedule a trip to the prestigious venue into
their winter or spring getaway, with the display due to be available to view until
March 6th 2011, after opening in October 2010.
It uses the artwork of 30 international creators to look at spaces of representation
such as theatres and how the audience occupies its role.
Among the other themes investigated are the staging of communication and the way a
viewer can be transformed into an actor, while the performer takes their place as an
appreciator.
"This project attempts to ask questions about the position of the spectator in
contemporary visual culture," explained the organisers.
They revealed that attendees coming from the fine accommodation Seville has to offer will see the issue explored from two angles - what the
viewer sees and the role that they play.
Admission to the arts space costs €3.01 (£2.55) and includes all areas of the venue,
such as its monument and the permanent collection.
Opening hours at the complex are from 11:00 to 21:00 local time from Tuesdays to
Saturdays and 11:00 to 15:00 on Sundays. The building is closed on Mondays.
