Based in Penzance, the festivities are set to begin on Wednesday December 8th and will culminate on Tuesday December 21st, which is also known as Montol Eve. On this day, the people of Penzance engage in the west Cornish custom of guise dancing, which involves wearing masks and acting out traditional plays such as St George and the Turkish Knight. Montol Eve, which is the main event of the festival, also features the lighting of fire beacons and a spectacular torch-lit procession from St Johns Hall through the streets of the town. From 20:00 GMT on December 21st, Penzance's Chapel Street will be closed to traffic for a special street party.
