Theatre enthusiasts can see Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier performed in Madrid this winter, with a cast including award-winning mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato.

Running from December 3rd to 22nd, Der Rosenkavalier - or El Caballero de la Rosa in Spanish - will be staged at the city's prestigious Teatro Real.

It is directed by Jeffrey Tate and boasts a powerhouse cast with Anne Schwanewilms, Franz Hawlata and Joyce DiDonato all set to show attendees from Madrid hotels how talented they are.

DiDonato will play the part of Octavian, a role she first took on in San Francisco in 2007, with one reviewer proving to be very impressed by her performance.

A writer from the San Francisco Chronicle remarked: "The evening's signal triumph belonged to Joyce DiDonato, undertaking Octavian for the first time and turning the role into something tender and strong. Her singing was robust and full of feeling."

This year has been a huge success for her, with two gongs at the 2010 Gramophone Awards and one from Germany's Echo Classic ceremony.

Most of the performances at the Teatro Real begin at 19:00 local time, with the three acts of the story each lasting over an hour and two intervals in between making it a night to savour.

Tickets cost up to €164 (£139), depending on where people want to sit.

For more information on this event, visit the Teatro Real website or contact the venue on +34 91 516 0695.
