Families staying in Lake District accommodation this Christmas may like to attend Tom's Midnight Garden at the Theatre by the Lake.

Philippa Pearce's classic children's novel has been adapted for the stage in a new production at the Keswick venue, which is due to run until Saturday January 15th.

Audience members will be able to enjoy the magical adventures of the young Tom Long as he discovers a secret garden appearing at night behind his aunt and uncle's house.

Set in the 1950s, the story was adapted for this production by David Wood, who has been described by the Times as "the national children's dramatist".

Ticket prices for the show vary according to the date, with "premium" performances due to take place from December 18th and January 1st.

Visitors can expect to pay between £10 and £22 on these dates, while tickets for ordinary shows are priced between £10 and £19.50.

Those who fancy making their trip to the theatre a real festive experience also have the opportunity to order from the venue's pre-show Christmas dinner menu.

The Theatre by the Lake is situated at Lakeside in Keswick, with stunning views over Derwentwater and Borrowdale. The main house at the complex can hold up to 400 people.

For more information on this event, visit the Theatre by the Lake website or contact the venue on 017687 74411.

LateRooms.com recommends a range of accommodation in the Lake District, such as the Sharrow Bay Hotel Lake District.
