LateRooms.com - Shop Until You Drop at Barcelona's Fira de Santa Lucia

Released on: November 25, 2010, 4:37 am
Author: LateRooms Ltd
Industry: Travel

The Fira de Santa Lucia could be the perfect place for travellers staying at the cheap hotels Barcelona offers to find some unique Christmas gifts.

This centuries-old market takes place outside Barcelona Cathedral in the Gothic Quarter of the city and features an impressive variety of items to peruse and purchase.

It is set to be organised from December 3rd to 23rd this year and offers travellers a chance to experience authentic Catalan culture and humour.

Among all the unusual trinkets and festive items on sale, people can expect to find logs with smiley faces on them.

The full-size version of these are similar to Mexican pinadas, with sweets and gifts falling out of them when beaten, but it is traditional for Catalans to include a mini figurine in with their Christmas decorations.

If people prefer to buy more conventional nativity scenes, these will also be on sale in the area.

Last year, there were about 300 stalls in the Fira de Santa Lucia, which suggests tourists should find at least a few things to take home to friends and family as festive gifts.

It is free to enter the market, which can be found in the Plaza de Seu.

Travellers wanting to get there by Metro should take the L4 line to Jaume I.

LateRooms.com features a wide range of accommodation in Barcelona, such as the Hotel Barbara Barcelona.
