LateRooms.com - Spend Boxing Day at the Melbourne Ashes Test

The Melbourne Ashes Test will get underway on Boxing Day, with thousands of cricket fans set to descend on the capital of Victoria to cheer on their respective sides.

Much of the talk in the run-up to the series has been about the strength of the England team and apparent disarray in the ranks of the hosts, but Ricky Ponting's men are still sure to be backing themselves for success at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Last time the old enemies met at the famous ground - during the 2006-07 Ashes - Australia recorded a crushing defeat on the Poms on their way to a 5-0 series victory.

Five first-innings wickets for spin maestro Shane Warne helped the Baggy Greens win by an innings and 99 runs, a result they will be keen to emulate this time.

However, Ponting no longer has the likes of Warne and Glenn McGrath to call on, so fans staying at hotels near MCG for the encounter may be expecting a close-run affair.

The action will take place between December 26th and 30th 2010, with play scheduled to run from 10:30 until 17:30 local time on each day.

Gates at the ground are set to open to the public and AFL members at 09:00 on the first three days and half an hour later on days four and five.

For more information on this event, visit the MCG website or contact the ground on (+61) 3 9657 8888.
