LateRooms.com - West Side Story To Open In Adelaide Next Month

Released on: November 25, 2010, 4:12 am
Author: LateRooms Ltd
Industry: Travel

A limited run of the acclaimed musical West Side Story will open in Adelaide at the end of next month.

Having sold out in Beijing, Tokyo, London and Paris, the production will arrive at the Festival Theatre on December 30th 2010 and will be showing until January 23rd 2011.

Rather than simply recycling previous versions of the show, an all-new Australian cast has been recruited for these performances, along with a 19-member orchestra to play Leonard Bernstein's classic score.

Among the familiar songs featuring in the musical are America, I Feel Pretty, Maria and Somewhere.

West Side Story, which is based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, has not just been restricted to success at theatre box offices across the world.

The movie version only added to the show's reputation by scooping ten Academy Awards, including one for best picture.

However, it is on stage that the title is best known, with the Adelaide Festival Centre commenting: "This is undoubtedly a theatrical masterpiece."

Culture vultures staying in Adelaide hotels in the new year who are keen to watch one of the performances can get hold of tickets from A$70, although discounts are available for group bookings and concessions.

The theatre is located on King William Road and seats almost 2,000 people.

For more information on this event, visit the Adelaide Festival Centre website or contact the venue on (+61) 8 8216 8600.

LateRooms.com includes an array of Adelaide accommodation, such as the Hotel Grand Chancellor Adelaide and Chifley On South Terrace Adelaide.
