Revellers will be heading to Adelaide midway through next month in order to join in
with the 2011 Schutzenfest festivities.
The event dates back to medieval Germany and has been organised in Adelaide by the
South Australian German Association since 1964, having first taken place in the city
in 1865.
Since then, Schutzenfest - which literally means shooting festival - has grown to
become the biggest gathering of its kind in the whole southern hemisphere.
Tourists staying in the cheap hotels Adelaide has available on January 14th and 15th will be able to head down
to Ellis Park and get involved, with a wide array of entertainment planned for this
year's occasion.
On Saturday January 15th at 14:05, 15:15 and 17:10 local time, visitors at the Open
Air Stage will be able to watch the Coopers Strong Arm Beer Stein Lifting
Competition, while shooting challenges will be held on both days.
Plenty of bands have also been announced, including Vasco Era, Flaming Sambucas and
The Touch, which could provide another incentive for cheap accommodation Adelaide customers to check out the festival.
Tickets are on sale now, with general admission costing A$16.80 - a price that
includes a free stein. Under 14s are allowed in free of charge.
For more information on this event, visit the Schutzenfest website or contact the
organisers on (+61) 8 8223 2539.
